Valuing Your Volunteers

Tuesday, May 31st, 2016

There was an interesting article in the Seattle Times recently about volunteers. Though the article focuses on the region around Seattle, we think you can apply it to wherever you are in the country.

It’s definitely worth taking the time to read as you think about gearing up for spring and summer events in your school, church, or organization. Do you have plans in place for choosing and keeping committed volunteers? And, what types of people are you thinking about when you consider the success of an event?

Here at Safe Gatherings, we got several takeaways from the article:

  • How would your organization react if suddenly your volunteers all went away? How would you make it all happen?
  • Volunteers are an essential part of society.
  • In most cases, volunteers get more than they give.
  • Volunteerism has no age limits. Organizations need the young and the old.
  • Volunteering means giving of life’s most precious commodity: time.
  • It’s important to thank and recognize volunteers at every event!!
